Five Democrats Vie to Succeed Fran Pavley
Topanga, CA – (January 13, 2006) – The five Democratic candidates who are vying for the 41st District California Assembly seat will square off in a forum/debate, on Sunday, February 5, 2006.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Topanga Community House in Topanga Canyon.
The public is invited to attend the event, which is co-sponsored by the
Topanga Democratic Club and the Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica
Mountains.
The 41st district includes the communities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Encino, Hidden Hills, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Port Hueneme, Oak Park, Santa Monica, Tarzana, Topanga, Woodland Hills, and portions of Oxnard and
Westlake Village.
The candidates—in alphabetical order—are Julia Brownley, Santa Monica School Board member; Barry Groveman, attorney and Calabasas Mayor; Kelly Hayes-Raitt, co-founder of Heal the Bay and environmental leader; Jonathan Levey, Santa Monica attorney; and Shawn Casey O’Brien, disability rights advocate.
Dan Mazur, editor of the Topanga Messenger newspaper will be the forum moderator.
The incumbent 41st District Assembly member, Fran Pavley, is leaving office because of term limits.
A potluck dinner will precede the event at 5 p.m.
